Revision 1.0
Okay, so Brand New Day has been out a while, and it was pretty simple and nice when it first came out. Tumblr was still quite in its infancy, and there weren’t a lot of options to make blogs really stand out in the realm of non-technical customization (customizable without the knowledge of HTML and CSS, anyway). The only real way for people to customize it was to edit the HTML, and that is such a pain if you just want to add a few personal touches. Luckily, Tumblr allowed for themes that could allow for color customization without editing code! As soon as this was possible, revision 1 was on its way to being built for the end-user, and on it’s way to legendary status! (well, sorta… It was in the top ten themes at one point ;)
Revision 2: A New Day Dawns!
Tumblr was on its way to fame, and it had to act quickly to add more robust feature sets. The everyday user would find it hard to customize their blog, so Tumblr set out to use meta tags and boolean calls (you may want to Google that ;) to make user customization of installed themes far simpler. If you were to go into the Appearance tab of most themes, you will instantly see what I mean. There are plenty of options from in there to tinker with the theme.
What has Brand New Day rev 2 implemented? Here are some things for starters:
- Custom Header Image (site logo)
- Custom Background Image (more options to come on this one)
- Full Color Control
- Hide/Show Description, Avatar, and those you Follow
- Disqus Comment Widget for all posts and pages, jsut enter your Disqus shortname and you are ready to go!
That isn’t all, though… There is so much more going on in this theme that isn’t entirely noticeable at first glance, but hours and hours were poured out to provide a great user experience. And there is still more to come! I am currently working on Revision 2.1! So check back to see what I am working on with this theme.
